If You Would like to Coach this Season...

Coaching Requirements in Alexandria Area Hockey

To be an Alexandria Area Hockey Association Coach there are several steps you must take. We appreciate your willingness to do these things, and we also value the steps as measures designed to

1) protect our players safety

2) support your training as a high performing coach

3) establish a coherent AAHA coaching philosophy based on the most current, best practices for long-term player development

4) protect you, the coach, with training that insulates you from certain liability and offers some specific insurance protection as well.

We can help support you by answering questions, sending reminders, hosting clinics, etc. Ultimately, the responsibility to have your credentials in order is yours.

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU USE THE SAME NAME TO REGISTER FOR ALL REQUIREMENTS (ie, don't use "Michael" for USA Registration and "Mike" for SafeSport).

1) Register with USA Hockey (you pay $47 and AAHA will reimburse you 100%)

https://membership.usahockey.com/register/age

print the receipt with your registration number and turn into Colleen Schutte in the AAHA office (please turn this in as soon as you've registered either by emailing a copy of your confirmation sheet to aaha@rea-alp.com, or putting a copy in the mail slot in the AAHA office door - don't wait until you've completed all of the requirements. )

*You must do this before stepping on the ice

2) Consent to Treat : print, complete, sign and turn into Colleen at the AAHA office, your form:

*You must do this before stepping on the ice

3) SafeSport Training:  SafeSport must be done every year.  Print your completion certificate and turn in to Colleen Schutte in the AAHA office.

*You must do this before stepping on the ice

4) Background screening : do this through Minnesota Hockey (every 2 years).   Minnesota Hockey is using a new program for background screenings and the fee has gone up from $10 to $30.  Please don't do this if you did it last year.   If you are unsure if you need to do background screening, turn in a copy of your USA Registration Confirmation sheet to Colleen in the AAHA office with a note asking if you need background screening.  She will get back to you on this.    Please use this link to check your status first.  If you are a returning coach, please go through the screening process only if the link states that you are not currently “cleared” and NEED to be re-screened.

5) Coaching Certification Level training (1, 2, 3 or 4)  -  To find and register for a clinic you may need:

You will be reimbursed for the cost of your coaching clinic.  Turn a copy of your registration receipt in to Colleen in the AAHA office.

*This does not have to be completed before you coach, but does need to be completed by DEC. 31.

6) Online Age Group Modules  -You need to have completed an online module for whatever age group you are coaching. These are good “for life” which means if you completed your module for this year’s age group at any time in the past, you do not have to do another one until you coach at a different level.

Register for an online module by clicking on the link below  and turn in copy of your registration receipt to Colleen in the AAHA office to be reimbursed for the $10 fee.  Unsure if you need an age module....turn in your USA Registration Confirmation sheet to Colleen and she will be able to see if you need one.

*This needs to be completed before you step on the ice.

7) MN Hockey Coach Concussion Certification - MN Hockey Board adopted requirements for coaches and assistant coaches to obtain concussion training prior to participating in any team activity.  All head and assistant coaches are required to complete training every 2 seasons.  MN Hockey recommends training from the CDC or if a coach completes the age module the prior or current season this would be considered trained.  Also, this training is usually a part of the coaches meeting AAHA holds at the beginning of the season.  A completed Coach Concussion Certification form needs to be submitted to the AAHA office before you can be put on a roster.  To print a copy of the form:

*This needs to be completed before you can be put on a team roster.

Please know that as USA Hockey, MN Hockey and AAHA set up all of these hoops for jumping through so that you can volunteer your valuable time to deliver an amazing program to other people’s kids besides your own, we GREATLY VALUE and APPRECIATE the sacrifices you make to do so. Our program is so strong right now, and one of our greatest resources contributing to that quality is the pool of coaches.

As far as all the details, demands and hoops, we hope that you also see the value in most of them as ways to protect our kids and get the best possible instruction and protect you as you volunteer your talents and time.

Thank you!
