Start off the year with good grades - keep up great academic work!

S.K.A.T.E. is an academic recognition program designed to encourage youth hockey players to strive for excellence in the classroom.

The program was originally developed by parent volunteers to emphasize the importance of academic performance to young players. Focusing on the competitive nature of the young student athletes, the program soon saw results with a significant increase in Grade Point Averages among youth hockey players.

The S.K.A.T.E Program will once again be a part of the AAHA skating program. The goal of the program is to increase awareness among youth hockey players that performance in the classroom is more important in life than performance on the ice. It is also the goal of the program to generate a lasting, measurable impact on higher achievement in the classroom.

To be a S.K.A.T.E. award winner, a student must maintain a 3.0/B grade point average during the first two grading periods of the 2013-2014 school year. Skaters who were 9 years old before July 1, 2013 through Bantams and the oldest girls in our youth program are eligible for the award. Winners will receive a certificate from the state program along with an award from AAHA at our year-end banquet.

Please be sure to tell your skaters/students about this award, so they can get off to a great start during a new school year and work to achieve this goal!
