Help spread the word about Muskie hockey

From Sheila Poshek, the volunteer and recruitment chair for the MN Muskies:

The MN Muskies is a  hockey team in Central MN for anyone, any age, who has a physical or intellectual disability. We are proud to be the 7th team to be a part of MN Special Hockey (mnspecialhockey.org) and the first outstate team to be formed.

On a personal note, our daughter Hannah started playing hockey with the Muskies at the age of 7 and is now entering her 4th season with the team. The teamwork and skills that she has developed are amazing and we see her growing each season - on and off the ice thanks to this amazing program. She tries to recruit players every chance she gets, because it's just so much fun!

Our  team, with your support, will play at the Runestone Community Center in Alexandria on Sunday afternoon’s, November through March with 4 traveling games.

The practices and games are set up for a positive experience for all, no matter what their skill level is. The lines will be set up for the most skilled players to play against each other, and the players who have more challenges or need additional assistance on the ice will play each other.  Certain rules, such as icing and off-sides will be over-looked to keep the flow of the game going. Every player has the same amount of ice time as everyone else on the team.

We are hoping to share this experience with as many potential hockey players as possible. If they have never skated before - that's ok too, we'll help. If you would like to volunteer or know some players or friends that would, please have them contact me and we'll be happy to have them join us. They'll get as much from the experience as the athletes do!

Thank you so much - and here's to a great hockey season!
